Imran Khan, raised in Wayzata, Minnesota with his two brothers, immersed himself in hometown volunteering from a young age. At a local outreach community center, he taught elementary school students about food shelters, emphasizing the importance of resource accessibility. He also taught Islamic studies to kids at the mosque where his parents volunteered.

Currently pursuing Global Health and Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Imran’s passion lies in microbiology, exploring the unseen aspects crucial for flourishing ecosystems.

Imran’s research mentor introduced him to the field of microbiology, helping him apply lecture content in real-life experiments. As a community-oriented and empathetic person, Imran is on the pre-med track, studying to become a doctor. Reflecting on accomplishments that makes him proud, Imran shared that he earned an A in his first Organic Chemistry course. To achieve this, he took advantage of supplemental resources, took meticulous notes, met with his professor during office hours, and sought guidance from the teaching assistant when necessary. This achievement exemplifies Imran’s strong sense of responsibility and his dedication to academic success.

Imran joined School for a Village to help more people access STEM education.

Introduced to School for a Village by his friend Arnav, Imran serves as our Outreach Director. He uses his network to build volunteer involvement. Currently, Imran is collaborating with a Special Education teacher in Madison to find high school volunteers that would be a good fit for our Chapters and Ambassadors program.

In his spare time, Imran loves to play soccer, particularly in the summer. He also enjoys quality time with his family and friends and playing guitar with his roommate, who taught him to play a few years ago. Some of Imran’s favorites include macaroni and cheese, the song ‘Daughters’ by John Mayer, and the movie Cars. Imran shared that his favorite character is Ron Weasley from Harry Potter because he is a loyal friend. Imran also loves the following quote by Charlie Chaplain: “A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

He owes his motivations and inspirations for volunteering to his role model – his dad.

Growing up, his dad was the point person in his community, always showing up for people if they needed it. Imran continues to look up to him and emulate his qualities in terms of his selfless nature. Imran has really enjoyed being a part of School for a Village,  finding it rewarding when he recruits volunteers. He looks forward to continuing his work.
