Arnav Barve is 19 years old and is currently studying Computer Science and Biology at Duke University. He was originally born in Belgium and lived there for a few months, before moving to Ohio and subsequently Minnesota, where his family currently resides. His grandparents came to live with his family after his younger sister, Sayrui, was born. He also has a super cute bernedoodle named Gucci. Arnav’s mom is a physician, which influenced Arnav to think more about medicine as an eventual career path.

As he explored medicine, he became excited about all the different moving pieces that work together and the diversity in the field.

In his future, he hopes to pursue an MD/MBA, combining his interests in medicine and business.

As the Director of Outreach, Arnav helps oversee our expanding network of Chapters & Ambassadors.

Arnav joined our organization because he resonates with the mission of being able to educate those who may not have access to education.

His parents were lucky to have access to education, but his grandparents and other relatives didn’t have those same privileges. This isn’t Arnav’s first time working at a nonprofit organization. In high school, he raised money to help provide menstrual products and vaccinations in rural villages at healthcare centers in India.

In his free time, Arnav enjoys spending time with his family. He loves snowshoeing, snow skiing, working out, making origami, hiking, and being outdoors. Arnav has a close relationship with this sister, Sayrui. As an older brother, he is proud of how she pursues things that truly bring her joy and meaning. Her intrinsic motivation inspires Arnav to take a step back and think about the intention behind what he does.

Like his younger sister, Arnav invests his energy into causes that he is passionate about.

Outside of medicine, Arnav also loves computer science, especially since computers are so prevalent in everyday lives. His favorite movie is Rush Hour, and his favorite fictional characters are the Weasley brothers in Harry Potter, as they remind him to not take life too seriously. He likes EDM, listening to artists such as Diplo and Calvin Harris. He also is a Chipotle fan! A philosophy that he lives by is the idea of stoicism. He believes that we shouldn’t let our emotions get the better of us. Instead, we should try to understand them, accept when we can’t control them, and not get too stressed about life in general.
