Ann Mungai grew up in Kenya. She was raised by her mom. She has a brother Peter who is four years older than her.  She is currently a student at Dedan Kimathi University majoring in Business and Information Technology. The university she attends is located in Nyeri, the central part of Kenya.

She aims to live life to the fullest, even though to her, it feels that time moves fast. She is very passionate about development, and coming up with original ideas. She finds technology fascinating, and enjoys learning about what emerges in the field.

From a young age, a lot was expected of Ann, particularly from her surrounding culture and environment. She has been very intentional about doing well in her studies. This stems partially from her fear of failure, and to avoid being ‘the talk of the town.’ Ann acknowledges that procrastination is her vice. This doesn’t stop her from working hard and doing her best. One of the accomplishments that makes Ann proud is that she started going to the gym.

Ann was excited to join School for a Village because she was inspired to meet the younger generation and teach them what she is able to share from her experiences.

Ann serves as our Project Manager. Ann truly enjoys the bootcamps, as she directly partakes in teaching them. She enjoys interacting with students as they brainstorm and give very brilliant ideas. She also loves hanging out with the School for a Village team, which she says has been so amazing. She feels blessed to have met Anjali in person! Our amazing CEO, Anjali, helped teach at Daraja Bootcamp from May 26st to June 1st, 2022, and she was able to meet our awesome team members Ann, Leah, Jeff, Victor, and many others.

In her free time, Ann enjoys salsa dancing. Ann’s favorite foods include meat, as well as anything with sugar. Her current favorite song is ‘Time of my Life’ by Nyashinski ft. Bien. She really likes the show One Day at a Time, and her favorite character is the main character, Elena. She enjoys that Elena brings attention to gender and sexuality issues, and on a more personal level, Ann may be able to resonate with some of the hardships that Elena has experienced in her own life. Ann enjoys many shows, particularly comedy including How I Met Your Mother, Friends, and Big Bang Theory

Ann lives by the quote by Richard L. Evans: “Direction is more important than speed. No matter how long it takes, you will get there.”

We are all imperfect and have vices, so Ann wouldn’t pick just one person as a role model. Instead, Ann likes to venture out of her comfort zone and model certain good qualities or emulate the ways in which many people inspire her. Ann is an integral part of School for a Village, and she loves her amazing team, and the ongoing work that she does for our organization!
