Yo, what’s good everyone? I hope ya’ll are having an amazing summer, and taking some time off to enjoy the lovely weather when it is not raining. You know how we said in our last member spotlight that it would be our last? Well, just kidding. Our newest Project Manager Leah Karienye has actually been with us for a while now, but we just never got around to doing a member spotlight for her. Don’t worry, this one will be short and sweet.

Leah Karienye is 22-years-old, and currently studying computer science at the University of Riara in Nairobi, Kenya. She has two younger sisters who mean the world to her, and she loves socializing with them and other people in general. Leah is our newest project manager, which means she plays a huge role in overseeing the completion of our projects in Kenya to ensure that they are completed promptly. She was a huge factor in the success of our most recent project, the boot camps (prepare for a blog post about that soon).

We are very lucky to have Leah in our organization, and the fact that she joined our team in the first place was quite lucky as well. She saw a post we had made in one of her friend’s groups and thought it would be interesting to join us since summer break was coming up. She believed it would not only be fun but also a great opportunity to give back to the community that had been such a significant part of her life growing up. Ever since Leah joined our organization, she has been learning nonstop, and she has been extremely excited to learn about how we work and different individuals’ perspectives.

Like I mentioned before, she had played a huge part in the success of our boot camps project, and for her to be there physically, she had to travel approximately four hours (talk about some dedication!). Leah is passionate about helping others – she loves meeting new people and socializing with them to learn more about their cultures and insights. Leah also loves seeing growth, both in herself and in other people. Recently, the growth she sees in her younger sisters has been very encouraging for her.

In the future, Leah wishes to enter the IT security industry. She thinks it is an extremely promising career path, as technology is always advancing and changing, so security must adapt and evolve in response. As a result, there will always be a career in IT security. Leah had originally wanted to become an engineer but changed career paths.

We asked her about her accomplishments, and she said her proudest accomplishment is seeing her sisters grow over the years. This just shows how selfless Leah is, and how much her sisters mean to her. Leah does not have one particular role model, but she is inspired by women who are doing great things out there, especially those in the field that she is trying to pursue. She wishes to follow in their footsteps and do great things.

In her free time, Leah loves crocheting. During the interview, Leah was actually crocheting a heart. She also loves listening to music, she doesn’t have a favorite song, because her favorite song is being replaced constantly the more music she listens to. As long as the music is relatable to her personally, she listens to it. Leah made a quote for herself this year, “So have you done your best today? If not, you can do your best tomorrow, and if so, just leave the rest to God.” If you think about it, it’s all about always doing better each day, which is really inspirational.

Leah’s favorite subject in high school was chemistry (I swear I have interviewed 4 people, and all of them said chemistry was their favorite subject. Like, yo, am I the only one who passionately dislikes chemistry?). In college, she has enjoyed security-related courses and is always seeking to learn more to become more skilled in the field.

Leah loves shows with geniuses in them, such as “The Good Doctor”. Fun fact: “The Good Doctor” is adapted from a Korean show also called “The Good Doctor”, so if you liked the Western adaptation, the Korean version might be something you want to check out. Also, her favorite food is grilled meat and fries, which I can totally get behind.

Well, that is the end of Leah’s member spotlight blog post. We hope you enjoyed it. Leah didn’t have a lot of “favorites” – she just… kinda likes everything, ahaha. Alright, peace.
